520 _aThe sharp oil price increases in the 1970s and the consequent serious balance of payments difficulties in the oil importing developing countries encouraged many of these countries to developing and exploit their indigenous energy resources. Today, a number of developing countries with commercially attractive reserves of natural gas, for example, Bangladesh, Egypt, Pakistan and Thailand, have begun a serious attempt to utilize their gas resources both for internal domestic and industrial purposes as well as for exports.
