505 _aHigher oil prices since 1973 have accelerated ongoing development work on new energy technologies. Many of these technologies concern developing new energy sources such as solar energy, oil shale, and fusion power. Others aims at converting coal into synthetic fuels that are environmentally acceptable. Still other technologies are aimed at improving methods of energy utilization. These include battery - powered automobiles, fuel cells, power storage, gue gs desulfurization, and fluidized-bed combustion. SRI proposes to establish a continuing multiclient program that will evaluate the technical and economic feasilility of these technologies on a consistent basis.
