520 _aThe report identifies public and private finance commitments for energy in 20 developing countries – known as the high-impact countries (HICs) – that together are home to nearly 80 percent of those living without access to energy. This analysis highlights where critical investments are needed to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) and provides recommendations to overcome current barriers hindering financial flows to clean energy access and, consequently, climate action. Based on data from 2019, the report highlights significant shortfalls in investment for electricity and clean cooking in the HICs. For example, it finds that finance committed to residential electricity access was less than one-third of the USD 41 billion estimated annual investment needed to attain universal electricity access by 2030.
