N2  - The objectives of this paper is a) to describe the heat flow provinces of the United States, b) to present estimates of temperatures to a depth of 10 km in these provinces and of the range of temperature that might be expected within each province, c) to summarize the physical data and assumptions that constrain these estimates, and d) to integrate the temperature distributions with area and depth so as to give an estimate of the sensible heat stored in the earth to a depth of 10 km
