Placing an upper bound on reservoir compaction requires placing a lover bound an the reservoir effective compaction modulus. Porosity-depth data can be used to find the lower-bound modulus in a young sedimetary basin. Well-log and sample porosity data from a geothermal field in the Imperial Valley, CA, give a lower-bound modulus of 7.7 X 10º psi.
