This article talks about that there has been a great deal of discussion on the question of production and depletion of natural resources. Much of this discussion, concentrates on theoretical approaches and tries to find global solutions to the problem of resource depletion. Speaking about the specific case of the oil industry, it is sometimes believed that the international oil companies constituted some form of global optimizer in allocating oil resources before OPEC managed to take over control of the indigenous natural resources. It is argued that the oil companies managed general operations, starting from production through marketing, transportation, and distribution. They seemed to have managed to link demand and supply by matching the needs of the market with the quantities produced, and to marshal investment globally.
