A brief background to the current debate on global warming is given. It is pointed out that so far there has been virtually no discussion on the CO2 emission scenarios presented by the intergovernmental panel on climate change - IPCC. The business as-usual scenario is analyzed in some detail. It is argued that this scenario is inconsistent and unsustainable. An entirely different approach is presented, based on an energy demand model corroborated over a 40 year period and extrapolated to the year 2100...
