This paper examines on the basis of regional surveys of electricity industry executives, the challenges which exist to the greater market penetration of clean technologies for electricity generation, where coal has been chosen as the prefered fuel. It provides an interesting snapshot of the perception that industry executives have of these technologies and of the incentives that theey believe are necessary, in the light of the uncertainties, to increase the take - up of more energy - efficient coal - based technologies.
