<br/><br/> Biomass origin electricity generation could be helpful for Amazonia in order to avoid large hydroelectric plants and allowing descentralized electricity production. This paper evaluates possibilities for small thermoelectric power plants fueled with biomass crop residues. Biomass availability in Amazonia is analized and minimun required amount to feed both conventional steam turbines and gasifier - gas turbine systems is evaluated. Preliminary economic evaluation is also presented comparing proposed electricity generation processes.
