The purpose of this study is to identify ways to bring about the required rationalizaation of production methods, manufacturing plant and energy use. According to Eurofer, the community steel industry accounts for 8 percent of the Community's total primary energy requirement and 20 percent of industry's requirement. Reduction of energy consumption is one of the ways of achieving the basic aim of improving the international competitiveness and profitability of the Community steel industry.
