The present study identifies several ways, all using presently available technology, to greatly increase the overall energy efficiency of existing miills, produce surplus bagasse and generate electricityfor sale to grid. These include installing pre - evaporators to conserve steam, drying wet bagasse with flue gases to improve combustion efficiency, and pelletizing or compressing bagasse to enable it to be stored and used beyond the harvest season.
