Since the first overview paper was presented at this aumposium one year ago, work has continued to develop processes and systems for the production of synfuels and energy - intensive products from renewable biomass and wastes. An update of the subject is presented in this paper, and selected recent research and commercial developments are summarized. Waste disposal represents an inmediate problem and wastes are here now, so combined wste disposal - energy recovery processes are currently receiving the most attention.
